Vancouver Canucks John Cheech Garrett Forever a Canuck Hoodie

The front of this black hoodie doesn’t need a photo of the man himself: a white broadcast headset, a gold moustache beneath it, and the words “John ‘Cheech’ Garrett, Forever a Canuck”. Anyone who watched Canucks hockey over the past few decades knows exactly who it is.

From the Crease to the Broadcast Booth

John Garrett played 13 professional seasons between 1973–74 and 1984–85, in the WHA and then the NHL, where he appeared in 207 games for the Hartford Whalers, the Quebec Nordiques and the Canucks. He joined Vancouver in 1983, during the team’s black, red and gold “skate” era.

His second career lasted far longer. Garrett became a colour commentator on Hockey Night in Canada in 1986, moved to Sportsnet in 1998, and spent more than two decades as the analyst on Canucks broadcasts. His humour and his moustache made him one of the most familiar faces in Canadian hockey.

Garrett died suddenly in late April 2026, aged 74, in Salt Lake City, where he was working a playoff series. The Canucks called him a cherished member of their family. This hoodie is a way to keep him in the building.

Reading the Design

• Front: the headset and moustache silhouette with his name and “Forever a Canuck”.
• Back: a painted goalie mask with Canucks stripes and lettering, and Garrett’s signature with #31 beneath it.
• Sleeves: the vintage Canucks skate logo on one arm and a black-and-gold “JG” patch on the other.

The front: headset, moustache and “Forever a Canuck” lettering.

Fabric and Fit

The hoodie is made from soft, very light polyester with a drawstring hood, a large kangaroo pocket, ribbed cuffs and hem, and taped neck and shoulder seams. The artwork is dye-sublimated into the fabric, so it stays bright wash after wash. Bust is measured across the chest 2 cm below the armpit; sizes run from S to 5XL.

Each hoodie is made to order, so allow 1–3 cm of variation. Wash cold, use non-chlorine bleach only, hang to dry and iron inside out on a cool setting.

The back: the painted goalie mask with Garrett’s signature and #31.

Questions From Canucks Fans

What does the #31 on the back refer to?

It sits beneath Garrett’s signature and marks him as a goaltender, alongside the painted mask.

Is the print on both sides?

Yes. The headset design is on the front, the mask and signature on the back, with logos on both sleeves.

Will it fit over a jersey on game night?

Compare the chest measurement with a hoodie you already own, and go one size up if you plan to layer it over a jersey.
