Nutcracker Adventure and Travel 2026 Advent Calendar

A Nutcracker Who Keeps Travelling

E. T. A. Hoffmann’s 1816 story and Tchaikovsky’s ballet, first performed at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg on December 18, 1892, both end with a journey: the Nutcracker leads the young heroine through a snowy forest to the Land of Sweets. This calendar takes that idea further and sends the soldier on a month of adventures.

The box shows him with a map and a backpack beside signposts for mountains, forests, oceans, cities and deserts, with an airship, a sailing ship, a castle and a globe around him, under the words “Discover, Explore, Dream, Collect”.

The soldier figure itself comes from the Erzgebirge mountains of Saxony, where wood-turners began carving nutcrackers as painted kings and soldiers in the nineteenth century. They became Christmas favourites across Europe and America, and the ballet made the figure a symbol of the season.

Designs Behind the Windows

Travel runs through the set. Design groups include steam trains, hot-air balloons, a sleigh, a bicycle and a vintage car, winter sports such as skiing and skating, and stops at a lighthouse, a desert with a camel and a snowfield with a dog sled. A few pieces bring him home for Christmas with a drum, a flag and a night on a crescent moon.

Each design is printed on a flat acrylic ornament with a hanging tab. The photos show the artwork and lay out the set at once; they are not a guide to what sits behind any particular window.

Display Ideas

A small tree, a hallway garland or a travel shelf with a globe and a stack of guidebooks all suit the set. Strip the thin film off each piece, then a dry cloth keeps it clean.

Before You Order

Is it based on a particular ballet production?

No. It draws on the Nutcracker story in general rather than one company’s staging.

When should I order for December 1?

Each calendar is printed to order. Allow about three weeks for delivery within the US.

Is it suitable for children?

The pieces are small decorations rather than toys, so younger children should open the windows with an adult.
