Starbucks Siren Logo Mini Cooler Cup

A Coffee Brand in a Cooler’s Shape

This cup borrows the shape of the big round cooler you see on football sidelines: a round body, a ribbed band, a carry handle and a little spigot at the bottom. Then it shrinks it to hand size and gives it a Starbucks makeover, with a white body, the green Siren and soft pink accents. It’s playful, and it’s easy to spot on a busy desk.

What You Get

Body: white, with the green Starbucks Siren logo on the front.

Band: a raised pink ribbed band around the middle.

Lid and handle: pink, with an opening for the straw.

Straw and topper: a clear straw with a green bow topper.

Charms: a small drink-cup charm and a round green Siren tag, both on pastel bead chains.

Spigot: a white spigot detail near the base.

In the second photo the top comes off and a regular soda can drops right in, so this doubles as a snug can sleeve between coffee runs.

The Story of the Siren

Starbucks opened its first store near Seattle’s Pike Place Market in 1971. The founders named it after Starbuck, the first mate in Moby-Dick, and looked to the sea for a logo. They found a twin-tailed siren in an old Norse woodcut. Over the years she was simplified, and in 1987 she turned green. In 2011 the company dropped the words around her entirely. Today the Siren alone is enough for people to recognize the brand.

Top off: a can slides into the white body, with the Siren logo facing out.

Starbucks and the Holidays

Starbucks released its first red holiday cups in 1997. Ever since, the reveal of each year’s design has become an unofficial start to the season for many fans. A pink-and-white Siren cup isn’t a holiday cup, but it carries the same idea: a small, familiar treat that makes the day feel better.

From Coffee Beans to Coffeehouse

For its first decade, Starbucks sold only beans and equipment. That changed after Howard Schultz visited Milan in 1983 and saw how Italian espresso bars worked as neighborhood meeting places. He bought the company in 1987 and turned it into the coffeehouse chain the world knows, with the Frappuccino arriving in 1995. The idea of a “third place” between home and work is the reason so many people feel at home with a Starbucks cup in hand.

Ways to Use It

1. Keep a cold can of your favorite drink in it at your desk.
2. Take it to a tailgate or a picnic, cooler style.
3. Use it as a pencil holder between drinks.
4. Give it as a birthday gift to the friend who knows every barista by name.
