Nestle Toll House 2026 Advent Calendar

A Baking Kitchen, Shrunk to Twenty-Four Pieces

What arrives is a miniature baking set rather than a set of flat ornaments. A yellow stand mixer. A spotted ceramic cookie jar with a lid. A baking tray with six cookies on it. An oven mitt, a spatula, a brown apron, a rolling pin with red handles, a whisk, a measuring cup.

Then the ingredients, all in Toll House packaging: a bag of chocolate chips, a jar of morsels, brown sugar, cocoa, a block of butter. A recipe book. Three cookie cutters. A gingerbread house. A stocking. And on day one, a cookie wearing a chef’s hat.

1938, and a Deal Paid in Chocolate

Ruth Graves Wakefield ran the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. In 1938 she added chopped pieces of a Nestlé semi-sweet bar to a batch of cookie dough, and the result went into her book Toll House Tried and True Recipes as Toll House Chocolate Crunch Cookies.

The cookies sold. In 1939 she reached an agreement with Nestlé: the company could print her recipe on the chocolate bar wrapper, and she would receive a lifetime supply of chocolate. That is the ESTD 1939 on the box, and the recipe is still on the back of the bag.

It is one of the few food origin stories where the inventor is named, the place is known and the deal is documented. A calendar built around that kitchen has something real behind the yellow packaging.

Why a Baking Set Suits a Countdown

December baking is already a sequence. The shopping, the mixing, the batch that goes wrong, the tin that gets taken to someone else’s house. A calendar that hands over one piece of equipment a day runs alongside that rather than competing with it.

The miniatures also hold together as a set in a way that assorted ornaments do not. By Christmas Eve there is a complete little kitchen rather than twenty-four unrelated objects, which gives it somewhere to live afterwards: a shelf, a dollhouse, a display beside the real cookie jar.

For a household that bakes together, it is a running joke made of objects. The real mixer is on the counter; the yellow one is three centimetres tall.

The Kitchen You Build

These are display miniatures, not edible items and not working kitchen tools. Check the age guidance on the box before giving it to a young child, since the pieces are small.

For the Person Who Bakes for Everyone Else

Every December there is somebody doing the baking that other people take to parties. They buy the chips, they own the mixer, and the tins go out of the house faster than they come back.

This recognises that without adding another task to their month. It is a set of small objects about their hobby, not more ingredients they then have to turn into something for someone else.

All twenty-four pieces appear together so you can see the finished kitchen before buying. Which one arrives when follows the door numbers, not that arrangement.

Questions About the Toll House Calendar

Does it contain cookies or ingredients?

No. The contents are miniature display pieces modelled on baking equipment, ingredient packaging and baked goods.

What does ESTD 1939 refer to?

The year Ruth Wakefield’s recipe reached an agreement with Nestlé and began appearing on the chocolate packaging. The cookie itself dates from 1938.

Are the miniatures functional?

They are display models. The mixer, cutters and tools are scaled-down representations rather than working equipment.

Can the set be kept after Christmas?

Yes. The pieces stay together as a miniature kitchen and can be displayed or stored for the following year.
